Hillside garden for family

The owners of this house had a lovely large hillside extending to a wild wood. It had been largely neglected over recent years, and so we explored ways to make the site work for them and their 2 children.

The landscaping took place in tandem with a new extension to the house. With groundworks machinery on site, this was an opportunity to change the layout of the  imposing brick and granite terrace which stretched right across the back of the house.  This has been made more interesting and more intimate with different levels and materials being used to create a chill out sunken seating area, a generous dining area and a modern deck with balustrade to extend the space of the new extension.

Stage 2 was the landscaping of the hillside. This included clearing shrubs, introducing sleeper steps and retaining walls, and dredging the boggy area at the foot of the slop to create a pond. A certain amount of cut and fill of soil was needed to create a fairly level area for ball games. Where possible spoil was kept on site to reduce costs.

The plans for the slope evolved through discussion with the landscaper. It is an exciting work in progress...photos of the site to follow.
